Is the heater/coolant valve Tercel-only?

Post by tercle »

Is the cable-operated coolant valve on the firewall unique to the Tercel, or are there other Toyotas that used it?

I am reasonably certain it is used in other models, the larger cars may have used larger dia heater hose, but I though I have seen this valve in both the corolla and the 4 cyl. pick-up. In fact you can likely make any similar valve work as long as the hose sizes are the same, but you would have to likely make a way of mounting it (not too difficult).

If you're really in a bind and can't find a heater valve cheap, you can always pull a trick out of the "LBC (Little British Car) Half-arsed Shop Manual". Just get the appropriately sized PVC on/off valve from your local hardware store and instal where the present heater valve is now. Of course you must pop the hood to turn access it, but that's only a few times a year. I had one of these on my Triumph Spitfire for years. Try finding a heat valve for that bloody thing!
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.
