Factory Tercel Wagon Cupholders...
I have a factory cupholder/storage pocket setup from a 1987 Tercel wagon for sale. I picked this up while I was getting a lower-mileage transmission for my 86 2WD (along with a splash shield and a cargo carpet), but I'm not going to end up using it. This is one of the options that Toyota added for the last couple of years of Tercel wagon production, and it should have been there all along.
In a 4WD, this relocates the radio to the bottom (where the pocket is on the 83-86). The cupholders are at the top, then a shorter pocket, then the radio. This also includes a second pocket that goes below the radio on 2WD Tercels.
I'll sell it for $25.00 shipped CONUS, or I'd trade it for a decent dark gray/black cargo cover for an 86-88 2WD wagon. I'll try to post a couple of pictures tomorrow.
BTW, the Tercel at the junkyard also had a good left headlight and a right corner light. I don't know how much they'd cost, but I can check for anyone who has an 87-88.

Re: Factory Tercel Wagon Cupholders...
last year ,I bought cup holder from auto wrecker, install my wife automantic 85 station wagon "cool", then two week ago got another cup holder from another automantic car , I was told it meant for ONLY automantic cars not manual , because if I shift into 3 rd gear or 5 th gear ,it will hit the cup holder ,does anyone have that kind of problem because I am planning to install my manual tranny 4WD, thanks

Bump for pics. The pics show both storage pockets, but only the upper one would be used in a 4WD. The side brackets would likely need trimming to fit a 4WD as well, but that wouldn't show once it's installed.

Re: Factory Tercel Wagon Cupholders...
so it seems the factory indented those with a manual transmission to hold thieihot coffee while they drive (and shift), and those with the automatic trans can keep both hands on the wheel, hot beverage in the holder, while they drive???
Good planning.

My cupholders came from a manual transmission Tercel. As high as they mount, it shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Factory Tercel Wagon Cupholders...
just found that in addition to the '87-'88 automatic t4s, applicable cupholders also came in '87-'90 hatchback tercels and late 80's/early 90's corollas. i'm working on an '87 automatic and was surprised when i stumbled across its broken cupholder. went to the wrecker and pulled several more from the aforementioned hatchbacks and corolla. going to replace the one in the project car and might install one in my all-trac. i will hang on to the other one to see if i can't make it work in a future manual trans t4 project.
incidentally, this is a nice style of universal cupholder available from many marine supply stores. it adjusts to accommodate various sizes of cups and folds up compactly when not in use. our new camper van has them and i really like them. could work on a t4 if you didn't mind drilling into your dash or door panel, maybe.

Re: Factory Tercel Wagon Cupholders...
If this is mounted on the binnacle, which I presume it is - won't it interfere with the radio in both AT's and MT's and the shifter in MT's?
Will the base - or whole unit - withstand "plonking" the cup down hard into it? I have a kinda heavy plastic/metal favorite tall cup.
It also raises the possiblity (for peeps who cannot walk and chew gum, like moi) of spilling beverages over the shifter area - the solution I did six years ago obviates that possibility (it is still going strong, I might add).

Re: Factory Tercel Wagon Cupholders...
"binnacle"?? i had to look that one up. the google definition is "housing for a ship's compass." bit of a reach but i know what you're getting at.
in the AT i'm working on, the cupholder is located just below the lighter and ash tray. there is a cosmetic face piece below the cupholder that simply covers the hole that would otherwise be there, and the stereo sits below the face piece. the MT's have the stereo just below the lighter/ash tray, then a pocket. it would be nice to have the cupholder on the bottom so it didn't interfere with the stereo but the shifter console would be in its way. i think i could live with the cupholder blocking the stereo for the few times i would need it. i imagine that the pouch could be removed from the MT, stereo moved down, and the cupholder and face piece added in above the stereo. if not, the metal bracket which houses all these things could probably be swapped over as well. i might take some pics tomorrow to illustrate.
your home made cupholder solution is great, tom. i just like trying to figure out a way to make one look stock.

Re: Factory Tercel Wagon Cupholders...
dbl I took a cup -coin holder out of a Ford torus (lots of these around)fits right into the hole above the radio with a little mod to remove side mounts it slips right in , However it cant be used in 3rd or 5th gear which sucks, I was thinking about heating and bending the shifter back a little for clearence. when this is instaled it looks total stock.Larry

Re: Factory Tercel Wagon Cupholders...
i'm putting the interior back together on the project car and found that, in stock form, the cup holder appears to be completely useless. unless something is bent or not lining up properly, even when fully extended the holes for the cups are obscured by the various trim above it. you can't fit any cups in!

so i thought about the best way to extend the cup holder. i thought about adding a spacer between the cup holder and console frame and using longer screws but that was too much work and might interfere with the trim that covers it. i decided to modify the cup holder housing so that the stops are 2-3 cm farther out. this does mean the cup holder is not able to bare as much weight but i tested it and it is still able to handle far more than you could ever fit in it. you just can't lean on the thing, which you couldn't do before anyway.
here are the stock stops. the raised hooks at the top of the photo are stopped by the lower sort of v-shaped portion of the housing.

here it is again with my very, very careful and extremely precise mod.

now the cup holder comes out far enough that you can actually use it, and still does not contact the shifter.
