What Petros said about idling...
I try for 800, even with the Weber instead of the OE Aisan.
Note that the 650 speed is for MT cars w/o PS; PS-equipped MT and AT non-PS cars are 800. AT cars w/PS is 900.
Note also that those speeds were for new T4WDs.

dib, On a carbureted engine, holding the throttle wide open does a couple of things. During the non cranking time, some of the gas will evaporate, the rest will pool around the intake valves. Now when you start cranking with the throttle wide open, the pooled gas will pas through the engine quickly. Because the throttle is wide open and the crank speed low, no vacuum builds up in the intake and air flow across the venturi's is very slow so it does not draw anymore gas into the intake manifold.

If the engine is cold, opening the throttle completely will pull the choke open too.

On a fuel injected engine, the computer is programmed to not inject any gas when the TPS (throttle position sensor) detects WOT (wide open throttle) and the engine is in start mode.

Anyway, the bottom line is this, I have used this technique for 45 years and it has never failed to work for me.
