Hey I pulled the engine recently after it developed a knock. I'm looking at boring .040 over so I was just wondering if anyone had anything laying around.
Will need/want some pistons/rings, rod/crank bearings, gaskets, rear main seal, oil pump etc..
Just thought I'd ask before I go buy all the stuff new, in case you've got something you never used laying around you'd like to make a buck on

you will have to have the piston set before the machine shop bores it out so they match the bore to the piston dia. You should just buy a matched set. BTW, overboring the engine raises the compression ratio about a half a point (more volume displaced into the same size combustion chamber). It will give you a bit more power, just watch for engine knock, you might have to use preminum fuel (not as bad as you might think in terms of cost, you will get slightly better economy with premium fuel so fuel cost per mile is about the same).
I have found it is cheaper to just buy the gaskets you need for the rebuilt rather than getting a full kit. Front and rear seals, head gasket, o-rings, pan gasket. You usually can reuse the intake/exhaust gasket if they are not damaged, same is true with valve cover gasket. You will also need new valve stem seals, cheap at rock auto, I would also replace the 4 exhuast valves with new ones, they get heat fatigues and eventually pieces break off, or even the whole valve head breaks off and does a lot of damage to the engine, not worth the risk when you can get new valves for something like $7 each. Intake valves are fine to regrind the seat and reuse.
