My 83
Fixed a couple of minor things on her and hit the trails. She did pretty good (especially since the shocks are completely blown out and I was bouncin off the bump stops most of the time) for what I usually ride my dirtbike on. I need some suggestions though as to what to do to her. I have a few ideas but nothing dfinate yet.

Re: My 83
put KYB gas struts front and rear, you will be very happy with that set up. there are more drastic measures you can do with the suspension, but so far all have had problems with cv and strut seal failures because of it.
I am considering going to Celica GTS front struts (same length, much larger dia, stiffer spring), and pathfinder rear springs (cut to limit the amount of at rest lift), but I have not tried it yet. you have to swap around the top mounts and a few other details to make it work.

Re: My 83
mine is probably not a popular suggestion but here it is: keep it stock. i personally love T4's as they are and after some engine, carb, and suspension mods on my last one, i've learned that i prefer stock. if you do want to go with lifts, i think synthdesign has a front lift he is happy with. it is mentioned here:fadeone wrote:I need some suggestions though as to what to do to her. and i believe another member has a really tall front lift but i can't remember his username right now. littleredwagon or something. he's done some serious off-roading with his lift and was pretty happy with it IIRC. do a search on here and you can probably find it.
car looks great in the pics, btw.

Thanks dlb. I do want to do a mild lift on it though. For the stuff that I get into, it would probably do me some good.

Don't forget to replace the strut mounts all around..makes a huge difference..if you can also manage motor mounts go for it..she'll sit a lot straiter and a bit taller. I am like dlb on the car->I go for stock on nearly every single thing...I've used Monroe and another brand for struts but after all that crap went back to KYBs..another big difference

Re: My 83
I have about six years of very hard use on my KYBs, I drive six miles of rough gravel road daily, three in and three out of my house every day. the factory struts gave up in less than a year, KYBs have been great, still like new. I drive "rally cross" on our roads just for fun (especially when I get home late like last night when the neigbors are all asleep), so I am not easy on my car.
My daughter's Suzuki Esteem struts recently gave up the ghoast (oil?) after about 3 years on our roads, installed KYBs for her as well. She is very pleased with them, never knew what a different good shocks can make in all driving conditions, much better right at hwy speeds too.

Ditto on KYBs. I used GR-2s instead of the Gas-Adjust, based on Highlander's experience
