Rear disk conversion
Has anybody ever done a rear disk conversion?

Re: Rear disk conversion
not that I remember, there has been a lot of discussion. First you have to do the front brake upgrade I wrote about in the repair guildes section. The rear drums seems to hold up fine and are reliable, many new cars still have rear drums like the Toyota Matrix for example.
The best candidate for the conversion would be to use the rear disk set up on the first gen MR2, it actually uses the same rotor as on the front of the stock Tercel brake assembly (which you will have left over after you do the front brake up grade). You will need the rear caliper from the MR2 because it has the parking brake set up in it. You may have to adapt the parking brake cable end as well (or swap with the MR2 parking brake cable). than you either have to fabricate a rear mount that relplaces the brake backing plate, or see if you can find the rear brake braket off a '85-87 Corolla GTS rear axle (it uses a very similar rear axle, and in fact it can be swapped out as an assembly since the GTS rear axle has several limited slip diff than will fit in it). the GTS rear brake bracket should bolt on to the Tercel rear axle (which is the same as the one that came on the rwd corolla). But I do not know if the offset will be the same, which could be fixed by with shims under the rotor or the caliper mount. The GTS rear axle not only has a limited slip diff available for it but also uses rear disks, but the rear diff ratio will have to be changed, and the bolt pattern in the axles will not match the Tercel bolt pattern, so you either have to modify the axle hub for the 100mm x 4 Tercel bolt pattern or see if the Tercel axles can be swapped out, not sure if that is possible since i have not tried it.
I have some "extra" rear mr2 calipers, rotors and the backing plate, and some day may try to fab a brake mount. If I do than I will make a drawing of the caliper mount and post it here so you can have some made locally and swap in the rear brakes.
ONe advantage you get by switch to the MR2 rear brakes, and the MR2 master and front brakes, is you will keep the front to rear balance the same. Or you can always buy an adjustable brake proportioning valve and play around with it until you get balanced braking.

Re: Rear disk conversion
Thanks. How hard was it to do the front conversion?

Re: Rear disk conversion
welcome to the list fadeone btw,
it is an easy conversion, everything bolts right up. You can either buy the parts new (kind of costly), or get them from a salvage yard. You have to make a spacer for the rotors, or buy a pair from list member Snythdesign.
