This forum is for cars that run, or at least are close to running. This isn't for parting out complete cars.

1985 Toyota Tercel 4WD DLX automatic - $450

Post by tercel4wdrules »

The time has come to start cleaning out some Tercels. I actually wanted to keep this car and I also don't want to send it to the junkyard. It's an '85 automatic in what Toyota calls "Ivory" color. It's intact and the body is in good shape, except for some surface rust in the usual places. It has less than 170k miles. It starts and runs, but rough. I bought the car from the grandson of the original owner, which passed away. He said it needed a head gasket. I replaced the thermostat three years ago when I got it and also replaced some missing manifold bolts. I had to set the idle high, or else it dies. The radiator fan switch is bad, so I just unplugged the wire and it runs all the time. The brakes don't work too well, but it stops. It runs hot on the street, about half way on the temp gauge, but as soon as you try and drive it on the freeway, it will overheat and boil over. Perhaps there might be a restriction somewhere in the cooling system. I did not figure it out. The tires are old and cracked. The middle seat belt for the rear bench is missing. It still has the original cargo cover. It's equipped with power steering and has the AC components, but it doesn't seem to cool. The windshield wipers don't work, not sure if it's the switch, but it seems like someone already replaced the wiper motor. There's automatic transmission fluid leaking (a steady drip at idle is what I've noticed), but I don't know exactly where it's coming from. It does not have a battery. It's been on PNO (planned non-operation) registration status since 2005.

I would like to get $450 for it. I hope it goes to the right home as it would be a shame to junk the car. I will post pictures later along with the actual mileage. It needs to be gone relatively soon. Any inquiries, please feel free to send me a PM.
