thank god, i thought you were looking for another one, elizabeth!
i think what this person is seeking is not in line with the price they are willing to pay. less than 200,000 km + air cared + sunroof + good mechanical shape = a very desirable and thus pricy terc.

No, All the Tercels I look at now are with my pick'n pull eye; hmm could use the blower motor/radiator/rear windshield wiper motor....out of that.dlb wrote:thank god, i thought you were looking for another one, elizabeth!
I'm just really enjoying "Bones". I've used her air conditioning a couple of times and drove her at 70 mph to a small community about 135 miles each way last Thursday. Gas mileage isn't great; 26 liters to do 135 miles at 70 mph. Somebody mathematical do the calculations for me. She accelerates noticeably quicker than The Gray, doesn't shift as smooth and she doesn't purr, much more of a growl. Fun to drive. Since putting in fat underlay under the rear carpet she is noticeably quieter on the road, quieter not quiet.
Meanwhile; The Gray has new headlights, a new turn signal, recently washed carpet with fat underlay, a new passenger side mirror (thanks David) and as of yesterday fresh oil, filter and drain plug. Son Will and I spent Sunday at home after his two week absence, I changed the oil in the Gray while he learned and then he did the same to the 81 Toyota pickup. Summer is over up here and the scramble to prep for winter is on. Bones will get parked by the end of October and then it is the season of The Gray. I'm going to really enjoy the new headlights and the block of LED lights Petros and I picked up at the Arlington Autozone for the dome light. I'm gonna have killer night vision this winter!

are those actually miles, or km? you can convert either the liters of gas into gallons, or miles into km, and then figure out km/L or mpg. i notice the popular measure of fuel economy in canada is to measure L/100 km, though, which i don't really like. it's fine but just seems a little clumsy to me. to figure out L/100 km, you divide the km per tank of gas by 100 (call this x), then divide the liters it then takes to fill the tank by x. i like km/L. i just got 13.67 km/L in the corolla on a road trip, which is over 32 mpg. psyyyyyyyched.

26 liters is 27.48 quarts, which is 6.87 gallons. if that was fuel used one way at 135 miles, it would be 19.6 mpg. which is very low, about what I was getting driving from Omaha to Arlington, even after swapping the carb. It appears there is something else amiss, perhaps the catalytic converted is bundled up, or one of the emission control devices unrelated to the carb is causing it. YOu left here with it running good and everything in proper tune, what kind of fuel economy did you get on the way home?
Unless it was heavily loaded and it was very hilly, that is much too low. should be closer to 30 mpg, even as high as 34.

I have had the same fuel economy since I left Arlington. The only real factor was the speed - 70 mph on that recent 135 mile trip. Suggestions?Petros wrote:26 liters is 27.48 quarts, which is 6.87 gallons. if that was fuel used one way at 135 miles, it would be 19.6 mpg. which is very low, about what I was getting driving from Omaha to Arlington, even after swapping the carb. my suggestion: start with the cheap stuff. use the FSM and test every emissions component. also check for hidden vacuum leaks:

i'm sure you and peter did all the basics like tire pressure, filters, spark plugs, and timing before you left arlington but you might want to re-check those. especially the plug, they may give an indication of how rich or lean the engine is running. after that, i would look at a possibly clogged exhaust.
good luck, e!

I drove it with three different carbs on it, the one she left with was running the best. everything else was new or near new when she left, all adjustments done. It ran great, no noticable drag on brakes, even the blocked exhaust seems unlikly because it was not down on power. could be fuel leak?
