Starter solenoid

Post by danzo »

A funny thing happened on the way to the Van Halen show last night, where I unintentionally learned about sheep herding.... I stopped for the required pre-rockshow sauce at Convenience Turbo about 2 miles from my friend's haus. T4 failed to start. Fearing said sauce was in danger of getting warm I got friend on the horn and he, sensing my panic, rocketed to my location. With him turning the ignition and me tapping the starter solenoid the car started. Bad solenoid, good concert.

So should I just replace the solenoid? It's $18, questionable quality rebuilt starter is $60. Any favorite brands? The price is not too crucial, I just need the car to start every time.
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

I have found the starters very reliable, I would either just replace the solenoid, or find a used factory starter in a wrecking yard. If you must replace the whole starter I would buy a new one, not a rebuilt one.
