87 T4WD for sale

Post by Darkelf »

Ok, so I'm putting my 87 up for sale. has an issue with either the input shaft on the trans or the front Diff. There is a knocking sound coming from that general area when you go down the road. It changes speed the faster you go. Still shifts good, but I know it's not a good sign.
The motor has had the whole lower end replaced. New pistons, rods, bearings, seals, oil pump (high volume 4age), valve seals, dizzy, CV shafts, struts and shocks, radiator, inner and outer tie rod ends, and center bearing in the drive-shaft. The motor has about 10k miles on it with the last 3k miles running synthetic oil. It's an SR5 so it has the moon roof (in full working order), all the glass is in good shape. I even have the cargo cover, though it needs to have the carpet glued back down.
I also did do a brake upgrade using 97 Paseo rotors on the front. Vented makes a world of difference.

The body is rusty and in need or repair, though nothing in the major structural components. Mostly the usual body holes in need of patching.
I just bought a 2006 Sienna van because i need the extra room for kids, so this is up for grabs. I would like to get $500.00, I know the engine alone is worth that. Title is clear, so no worries there.
If anyone is interested let me know. Too many good parts to go to the scrapper.
I do have some pics, just PM me an email add and I'll send ya some.
BTW it's white with the blue cloth interior.

Just an update... really need to get rid of the car. $300 takes it. If I don't get any takers soon it's going to the scrap yard. Just don't have the time or room for it. Too many other projects, not enough time or money. Hate to waste the rebuild to a scrap yard but sometimes $^!t happens.

do you have an idea if the knocking is coming from a CV axle, or from inside the trans?

At that price it might be worth a flight out and a drive back, but if the trans is in trouble already, it likely will not make the trip.

If that is the bearing I am thinking of, can it be changed without removing the trans? drop the tail of the trans, remove the little input shaft cover and remove it. can you not replace from the little cover on the back of the bell housing? seems like you can but I never tried it.

the input shaft has a large bearing on its aft end that can easily be replaced by dropping tranny rear mount
the inner bearing is inside the tranny
it will not come out easily
the large gear that the input shaft gear turns, overlaps that bearing about 1/8 inch
the tranny has to be removed from bell housing
the large gear can then be moved back by removeing the clip on the large bearing that is attached to that gear at the front of the tranny
you also have to pry the case apart a little bit so the gear will fall back enough
then you need a special puller to get the input bearing out
it is not easy to get it out even when the whole tranny is apart let alone doing it in place as i described
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
