Overpriced T4wd in Denver--CL ad

This forum is for cars that run, or at least are close to running. This isn't for parting out complete cars.

Overpriced T4wd in Denver--CL ad

Post by hberdan »

I saw this on Craigslist, it is not mine the owner seems very unaware of repair costs etc on this rusty one, and has it way overpriced, imho, that is a $400 car:

I just bought my dream car, a 80's 4x4 Toyota van. So it's time to part with the greatest car I've owned, the Tercel 4x4 wagon. She's treated me well, so I am determined to find her a good home. I believe in being open and honest, so here's the rundown of pros and cons:

Pros: Fairly low miles for its age and model (201,000), engine purrs, starts every time, new brakes within the last 9 months, all-season tires are still in great shape (70% of tread left on front, 80% left on rear), interior is in pretty good shape for its age, 4x4 works and is incredible in the snow!, doesn't burn much oil or leak, battery is one year old (and under warranty), heater works, belts replaced within last 9 months (v-belt, serpentine, v-belt, power steering), replaced thermostat in last 9 months, replaced blower motor in last 9 months, coolant recently flushed, passed emissions one year ago, all gauges, lights, etc. are working.

Cons: Water pump has a small leak (I make sure the coolant is topped off every few weeks and before I drive into the mountains), it diesels out (timing is right on so I was told that some carburetor work needs to be done to fix the problem), struts should be replaced in the next 20,000 miles, car must have been rear-ended prior to me owning it and the exhaust system was pushed forward (right now it is jimmy-rigged with a metal bracket to be held in place), muffler has a hole in it, tape deck doesn't work (but radio does), rust on the usual spots for a Toyota of this age, A/C works but needs to be on the 3rd or 4th notch so it may need to be recharged soon, and there are dents mainly on passenger side (all doors open and close properly).

This is not the most aesthetically appealing car, but anyone who knows older Toyotas will know that this is a hard car to find, especially for the mileage. People don't get rid of these cars because they were built to last and will run forever. Although it's a hard car to find, the parts are easy to find. All in all, it's a real runner and a machine in the snow. It will need wear and tear repairs in the future, but nothing is necessary at the moment. It's ready to rock.

I'm asking for $1600 but will consider reasonable offers.

body looks pretty rough, not just from the rust. And it clearly will need some costly repairs soon too. Perhaps he does not really want to sell it.
