I went to go look at a very early '83 T4WD SR5 once, it was made in Sept '82 if I recall correctly and the build number was in the thousands range, I had never seen one that early before.

It is likely just an '83 model year made in late '82. Desert cars may not suffer from as much rust, but all of the plastic and rubber parts turn to dust, and almost certainly will peel all the clear coat off the roof and hood. Although I will occasionally find rust buckets here (usually because it was parked under a cedar tree, sap is very acidic), many are not only rust free, but most of the plastic is like new because it hardly ever saw any sunshine

The oldest reported here in the Tercel Production Spreadsheet in the General Forum is that of terceldude, who reported a September build and number of 2106.
The next oldest reported was my '83, built in October (or November) with a number of 15982.
Of course, no one has posted anything there in 3 years...

never saw that spread sheet before! can't compete with the oldest (my '83 prod date is 12/82) but i think i may have the NEWEST (my '88 prod date is 1/88.) at least i'm newest on the sheet! any one newer feel free to chime in.
