Emergency! Must get rid of tercel FAST

Post by marcandfiveonettes »

Hi,
I was on the freeway towards home in Tennessee from Oklahoma and my timing belt blew up.

I am stranded in shawnee, OK and I am most likely looking at a new vehicle as I need to get home to Tennessee this week.

I just put a transmission and clutch in this car about 2,000 miles ago.

Clutch is BRAND NEW and tranny has less than 60k on it.

somebody make me an offer if you can, I can do the work to pull it out if need be.

Looking to get this sorted out in a couple days if possible

Sorry to hear about your timing belt.

You do know that the engine on these cars is non interference don't you? so you should be able to put a new one in pretty easy and it should start right up. (i've never tried but plenty of others have).

Yeah, unless something else happened a timing belt failure doesn't harm the engine-- New belt and you're good to go!

might be cheaper to have it towed to an Autozone, buy the parts you need and borrow their tools to put on a new belt.

Once I saw a failed belt wrap around the tensioner and break it off the oil pump, so the oil pump had to be replaced (a major job since you have to remove the pan). But that kind of failure is pretty rare, usually they just break and the engine stops.
