says here the 3A-HU was only available in japan but maybe it's the same. most likely the same as above, just a different emissions package or some other minor difference.

Re: 3-A toyota motor (Prince George, BC)
likely it was a low mile crate engine from japan. Mechanically I am pretty sure all the 3a engines were the same, just external parts, not all emissions, were not the same (I have even seen one with a different valve cover and timing belt cover).

Re: 3-A toyota motor (Prince George, BC)
haha, "high compression" only in relation to other 3A engines. don't expect any sort of sporty performance out of this engine, period.

Re: 3-A toyota motor (Prince George, BC)
I have 11.2 compression ratio, performance cam and a ported head, among many other mods, and it is only slightly faster than a stock one. So a stock 3a from he stock 9.4 CR to 9.8 will hardly be noticeable.
That obsolete 8-valve head is I suspect the culprit in limiting hp, and one reason I have been wanting to switch to the 4age.
I often wonder if a "simple" head swap package from say a 4af (carb version), with a weber, header and a few other tweaks would make for a simple "bolt on" performance increase. likely too much trouble.

Re: 3-A toyota motor (Prince George, BC)
do any of you know how much torque a stock 3a has versus a "built" one?
