sounds like it is in 4wd on a hard surface (you do not want this )
when you turn the outside wheels travel farther than the inside wheels
they try to catch up
hard on drive train
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

can you describe what you mean by skipping? like hopping along fast, or kind of binding and eventually giving?

A binding and giving out. Even not in gear when I turn it happens. Something catches then goes out

check for free play in the steering wheel. i can't remember how much there is supposed to be but just check the FSM or even your owner manual. i would also jack up the front end and try turning the wheels by hand, mimicking steering. check for play. if there is play, look and see where it is occurring. if it's in the inner or outer control arms, that's easy to remedy. if you can't see any play, it might be in the steering gears or u-joint. maybe pop the hood, reach in and turn the steering wheel back and forth, and watch from the side to see if the u-joint is obviously hooped.

did you bump anything recently? when did you last work on your front end? power or manual steering?

skipping? skipping? what does that mean? not sure by your description. Is wheel locking up? check wheel bearings. Does it to both sides or one side only? does it makes any noises when it happens. does it happen always, or just sometimes?

Skipping like the wheels will go and then not catch and gets the noise I can feel the whole engine moving. It only happens when I turn or try to gas hard

Sounds like you are talking about an engine misfire? Does it happen only in 4wd? You need to be more specific so we can help.
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

It is possible the steering is binding, and causing the issue?

There is a small universal joint on the steering linkage, on the steering shaft right above the rack and pinion. Sometimes these can bind up when worn out. Try putting a lot of lubrication on it and see if the problem goes away. These are hard to find if this is the problem, must go to wrecking yards to find a good one.

i've had good results using wd40 (it's thin enough to penetrate the joint caps) followed up with a shot of kleer lube (thick enough to hang around for awhile- it's kind of like snot in a can.) as a preventative measure, i give my steering joints a shot of kleer lube at every oil change. never much cared for white lithium- tends to turn to a white powder over time. 'course this only works BEFORE the joint develops play- at that point it's replacement time! bought a new replacement shaft from the dlr for my '84 for about $120 (that was 10-12 years ago- may now be NLA.) hope this helps.
if it aint there, there's a good chance it won't break!

I use LPS, but it is light so you have to apply it often. ATF also penetrates well, but also is very light. It is not supposed to be serviceable, but it might be possible to take it apart and lube it with moly grease and press it back together. I have several worn out ones, and a good u-joint from a wrecked MR2 steering column (different assembly, but the u-joint is the same size), I might try and swap them out if I can not find a replacement.

The assembly is no longer available, but I know of a machine shop that might be able to find something that could work. If so we might have a way of having these done on an exchange basis.
