I was lurking on a 4age forum and there was a thread where someone was putting a 4age head on a 7afe (to make a "7age"). In one of the pictures I noticed that the 7afe did have the six bolt flywheel. I do not know if that is USDM or not, or where it came from, but I thought it was interesting that it had the same bolt pattern as the 4afe (which I know uses the 6 bolt pattern of the 3a, I bolted a 3a flywheel onto the back of a 4afe engine just to make sure it was a proper fit).

I've read about those 7age too, more torquey! There is also a kit to make a stoker out of the 4age as well, Brian Crower stroker kit(comes with a forged crank shaft, con rod, and pistons of your choices for 3000$ if I remember good), to not end up with a deck so tall! I was kinda looking to buy maybe this summer for next winter projects! But I got a lot of time to change my mind! I'll see! The way a see it it's that or 3000$ in the valve train: cams, over sized stainless valves, springs, shim under, etc...
Dont let your eyes to fool you!!!

I do not think I would spending money on 4age performance cams, all of them are very costly and put the power curve way up in the 9,000+ rpm range. Not exactly good for rally cross or off road driving. A better and less costly improvement would be to use the stock cams but get some adjustable cam sprockets. You can than "de-tune" the engine by maxing out both the intake and exhaust cams to lower the torque curve. This will cost a little in peak hp (at the 7400rpm peak) but will greatly increase the power and torque in the 3000-5000 rpm range, right where you want it.

You can always spend the big bucks for performance cams later if you think you need more power at the higher rpm, having the adjustable sprockets is a good idea for a performance engine anyway.

I tend to agree with this for the 4ag. Do the adjustable sprockets first and experiment with them. If you still want more power get some Web Cams grind #294, they increase overall performance as most of the boost in power come from more valve lift. I had the #294 cams in my built ae86 corolla along with a K&N intake, high compression, performance exhaust and a HKS cro-mo flywheel, it ran really stong and had more grunt everywhere, not just up top.
