is there 2 sizes of oil filter??

folks- is there two sizes of oil filter on the 88-87 3a engine -mine seems to have the larger type -i keep getting sent a filter that is 72mm high by 67mm wide- the one the engine is at least 100mm by 80mm and seems to have more than a 3/4 screw -any ideas- its a swiss model-has anybody found this difference -if so have you a cross reference-tar DEREK

Bring the old one with you to a parts store and match the the threading in the middle and the size of rubber gasket with the biggest filter you may find if you want!

I notice that at the Wal-Mart Store which they have parts catalog "Fram" 1983-86 T4WD are # HP2951 but 1987-88 T4WD have different parts number that have some kind of By pass valve in the filter.
To his question ,"YES" I ran into different oil filter size with same rubber ring "coller" size

I think a 3614 will work, going by memory here though. Check the filter for the Supra, I think that is the one I used to use. If you open the Fram catalog, you should find only two sizes of filters for all Toyota's of that year, the "other" one is the larger of the two. They are interchangable.
