Rod Bearing notch Size
Hey all, I've got a bit of rod knock on start up so I'm gonna replace all of the bearings in the bottom end. On Rock Auto, Clevite rod bearings have a "2.95mm notch" and a "3.95" mm notch. Both show an application to the Tercel, so I would assume their either would work, but I want to make sure. Does anyone know of a reason to get one set over the other?

Re: Rod Bearing notch Size
These bearings are not interchangeable, some of the earlier 3a engines (like 1982-83) used one size, the '84 and newer used the other. But I am not sure which, I think larger notch is later, but you will have to check the applicability for each of the bearing part numbers (that should be on the rockauto web site, or some other parts supplier web site).

Re: Rod Bearing notch Size
the notch is also on the opposite side of the bearing'
what is the difference?
after 10-1983
if you are looking at a bearing it will be like looking at a "U"
the notch will be on the RIGHT and NEAR you or on the LEFT and AWAY from you
depending on how you have it turned
pre 10-1983

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
