New wing mirror

Post by henry_turcell »

Whilst a bit distracted, yesterday I scraped the left wing mirror of my 1983 SR5 along the side of my house. I think that the plastic housing for the mirror is ok, but I need to get another mirror.

Does anyone have a suggestion where I should go in Melbourne (Australia) to get a mirror that is the correct shape? Thanks.

i've got a bunch of spares of the '83-'84 side mirrors. might cost a bit to ship from canada but if it's just the mirror and not the whole assembly it shouldn't be too bad. you can have the mirror for free and just pay for shipping. send me a private message (PM icon on the right under my user info) if you want it.

Hi Henry.
Try www.grantsautodismantlers.com.au/ at Geelong. I was there a month ago,. They had a Tercel in stock. you'll probably have to buy the whole thing though if dlb's is too expensive.. shouldn't be to bad with this exchange rate though. make sure you get the right side though!

Thanks very much for that - I am new to this game. Owning a car I mean, not just owning my Tercel, and have not had to go about fixing anything on a car before!

I will give a glass shop a go first, before putting you to the trouble, dlb - thanks for the offer, though!

The '83-84 use a different sytle than the '85 and newer minors, the same year corolla used the same styel mirror as the Tercel, might be more common.

If you get stuck finding a replacment you can buy the whole assembly from any year Tercel or Corolla up through about '87. They are interchangeable as a complete unit (plastic housing and mirror with the remote control arm). You may have to drill a new hole to mount the later style, but it is not a big deal, for some reason one of the three mount screws is in a little different location.

IF you have a glass shop just make you a replacement mirror make sure it is for outdoor use. Most mirrors will loose the metal foil off the back once exposed to the weather for very long.

Good luck.
