Free transmission and differential
Up for grabs is a transmission from a 1983 mated to a differential from a 1985. Shook about 1 kg of assorted teeth and ring gears out of the transmission so it would certainly need a rebuild on that end. When I pulled it out of the car the first and second gears were not responding. The differential has the 4.11 gears and is A1. Take it away if anyone wants it. You pay shipping or come and get it. Located Sunshine Coast, near Vancouver B.C.

Re: Free transmission and differential
Is it the 6 speed manual (z60) for 4wd? How far on sunshine coast? There is a rally in february in merritt if not too far, I might consider it and do the extra road trip! Let me know! Then I'll see my options! Thanks

It is the 6 speed manual. I'm in Roberts Creek about 15 minutes off the ferry.

Re: Free transmission and differential
Darn that's quite a ferry ride ,don't think I'll make it all the way up there. But I will take measurement and weight I ve got fwd one same size pretty much. And I'll get a quote at greyhound tomorrow, if you would consider dropping it of there, they usually do the COD? let me know, than I would just have to go pick it up at the station and pay there!

Re: Free transmission and differential
If the diff is good I might consider it, I will need it for a Tercel offered to me with a bad tran (I have a good trans but not the 4.1:1 front diff for it). I am about 2 hours south of Vancourver. Is sunshine coast on the mainland?
I just do not have any plans to travel up north anytime soon. Could you perhaps give it to list member ToughTercel to bring down, he makes regular trips down this way?
Sound like the main gear cluster is scrap metal...might a few things to salvage from it.

First come, first served. Yes I will drop it off at the Greyhound station for Lil Beast, however if you are reconsidering it let me know as Petros seems interested as well.

Re: Free transmission and differential
I actually need the trans but not the diff gears got both set of ratio, they might a way to get both of us happy! So maybe just the inside of diff would be enough for petros? I'll go 1st thing at lunch to get a quote and let know right away most likely it should not be that much, I got a huge backpack sent once from quebec 5000km must weight 150lb twice as much as tranny and cost me a 130$, and a paintball from the island for 30$ so should be between these price. Anyway thanks a lot for the quick replys and early afternoon tomorrow you'll get an answer!

Re: Free transmission and differential
actually best way to separate the trans from the front diff it to unbolt the 12 or 14 long bolts and just separate the housing. the bell housing and front diff assembly slides right off the main gear cluster spline shaft. It would save about 40 lbs of shipping weight, and Lil Beast will get the aft trans housing, the main gear cluster and the transfer case. And I would not have to set up and shim the ring and pinion gear lash, I would just bolt the whole assembly onto the front of the good trans that I have.
If you pull the front diff out of the housing I would still need the pinion, and I would have to buy a shim pack to get the gear lash correct. So leave the front diff and pinion gear in the front housing (which is one piece integral with the bell housing), and unbolt it from main trans housing.

Re: Free transmission and differential
So that's good news for both! it will cost me around 100$ for the hole unit to get it down here, I can afford that! Looks like it will be less too -40 lbs. I don't know how we can organize, maybe send the whole thing and I separate it and send the diff to petros! Maybe easier for him, as I'm on the mainland, I'm about a 5 hours drive of seattle but no ferries! Here's my e-mail. Labine666 hat live dot com (replace the hat by @ and the dot by a . ) Will work something up! I'll send you my infos on a e-mail!

Re: Free transmission and differential
sounds good! do not try to ship it across the border, it costs way too much and a lot of probing forms to fill out too. Just bring it down on your next trip, or give it to another list member when they are coming down, can meet them just at the Interstate hwy.

Re: Free transmission and differential
I personally don't make it across, I do have friends that goes to seattle for concerts! Or like you said have a list member to pick it up, I'm fairly central! I do live 20min from border Osoyoos/Oroville, I can meet there too, on canadian side of course! I do go to vancouver sometime too, so we will manage something somehow! So guess I'll e-mail my coordinate to Cornbinder and send the hole thing to me and work from there! I do believe is the best option, it will save a lot of trouble to the donner! THANKS AGAIN!!! Cornbinder . I don't know, my guess, would be to box-it or wrap it good or both and drop it off at the greyhound station! CAP every holes very tight so it does not leak! And the estimate is a rough one, but she said not to worry and I can pay on delivery!

Re: Free transmission and differential
except Labine, the reason to separate the front bellhousing/diff assmbly was to save shipping cost. so you just get the rear housing/gear cluster, and than find some way to get the front diff to western washington, soon I hope.

Re: Free transmission and differential
Which ever is easier! Might be easier for you to get it down from him, as it's fairly close to vancouver still a little ferry ride thought! I was mistakin, I thought it was closed to powell river which is way up there! Still easier for me the greyhound option! Think on how you want to make it, but do not mind to do a bit of travel for another tercel passionate!
P.S. To Cornbinder if in need to contact me I forgot to mention in e-mail that you can text me or e-mail me and I'll phone you so you don't have to pay long distance. Note the e-mail are redirected instantly to my phone.
To Petros to get there the ferry fares are like this: passenger vehicle exclude driver and passenger 45.20$ each way and for passenger 13.45$ each around 120$ both ways for one! I say a couple hours of drive and one hour ferry approx. of vancouver!

Re: Free transmission and differential
The ferry ride is the most expensive part of shipping. I was hoping it could be brought to the mainland during another trip going for some other reason (or give it to someone that is going to the mainland anyway, to drop off at another list members place), where it would eventually make it down this way. Or if something takes me to Vancouver I could pick it up myself. I have cousins in North Vancourver and make visits there about once a year anyway. But I know that list member Toughtercel, who is in Surrey, comes to the local wrecking yard several times a year anyway, he would be a good person to leave it with to bring to Washington.
