Here's some pic of some pages they are super macro so you'll see them good let me know if you need complete tear down on tranny or can't download ill post them!
As for ratio you can always open the front diff cover and count the gears than a littlle math and you'll get the ratio so the biggest diveded by the smallest

So far I've gotten a lot of different sounding opinions about which throw out bearing to use, new or old.
any more thoughts on that.
the new one isn't clicking or grinding in a way that seems obviously bad but it is much tighter than the old one, it will turn just fine pretty smoothly but wont spin freely many times like a skateboard wheel. The old one spins very loosly and feels "smoother"

I don't know, your call I guess, but on my skateboards my wheels didn't spin freely either. I usually used the swiss bone bearing abec10 for lots a speed in the bowl and big airs and if they start to spin freely I use to tight them until they don't and without grinding of course. If couldn't than I threw a new set. My experience, I could be wrong, as long as you believe what you believe in my opinion. If the old after cleaning it thoroughly and re packed with grease, and you can feel some sort of grinding then you should consider a new one!

the info you want is at about 3:30 but the whole video is very informative. sounds like the new one is the one to use, as spinning loosely is a sign of wear.

you DO NOT want to try and repack the throw out bearing with grease, it is a sealed bearing and if you manage to get grease into it, it means it will come out all over the clutch while you drive it.Lil Beast wrote:If the old after cleaning it thoroughly and re packed with grease, and you can feel some sort of grinding then you should consider a new one!
The tightness you feel is likely the good seals and internal lube on the bearing. IT is likely a good bearing, if they are the same brand as the factory bearing than I would not hesitate to use it. Being loose is a sign of wear, and/or running "dry" (all the internal lube has leaked out). Either case, better go with a new "tight" bearing.
I have just had bad luck with after market, non-factory throwout bearings. The clutch can last well over 100,000 miles, and the pilot bearing (in the end of the crank shaft at the back of the engine) and throw out bearing both have to last that long too. I would also suggest pulling off the flywheel and replacing the rear main seal (unless you know it has been replaced within the last 100,000 miles), and putting a new clutch in it if there is any significant wear on it. This adds time and cost, but pulling out the trans to replace the rear main seal or the clutch is a big job, the trans is out now so it is an easy thing to do.

My bad I call them release bearing, just learn a new term for them now I know. I thought he was further in the tranny! So, I have the new transmission into place and a few bolts already in, axles and tie rods in place. I have attached a picture of a rubber gasket I found on the floor of my shop and don't know what it is. if anyone recognizes this or where it might belong please let me know.
there is a chance that it isn't a part of my car at all, but it looks suspicious.
it is a rather stiff plastic piece about 2 1/4" in diameter and 1/8" thick and has a cavity running around along the narrow outer edge.

looks like an axle shaft seal to me. check to see if both sides are still in the new trans. maybe fell out of the old trans??good luck!

no, it's not a CV seal. they are thicker and have an inside lip. there's a pic of one here:

I have pulled and replaced Tercel trans a dozen times and I do not recognize it at all. Looks like a large grommet of some type, not a seal or gasket. looks like it has no metal on it, so it either gets clamped between two parts (like a gasket) or the groove goes into a sheet metal hole to act like a grommet. Like something used to line a hole in metal to prevent wires or cables from getting chaffed where it passes through the hole. Noting like that on the trans.
Might be a piece of flotsam floating around on the garage floor from something else. My garage shop is full of stuff like that because I always have 3 or 4 or more unrelated projects going on at once. I usually can recognize where it comes from, so far anyway. (that might change as I age...). This does not look like a Tercel part to me.

Ok. So the car is almost entirely put back together and I just have a few final (hopefully) questions, before I try to drive it.
It is entirely possible that I have lost 1 or 2 bolts in the process though I am not sure.
I definitely have 7 bolts that I don't know exactly where they go. I have included pictures.
I have 4 apparently identical 14mm short bolts with washers.
one lonesome long 14mm
and two medium length 14mm bolts with washers.
there is one piece that I will call "mystery ground wire piece) that I know was bolted to the tranny and had a wire connecting it to the frame (shown in the picture hanging from wire) but not sure where or how or which bolt or with or without a nut. ( I thought I knew the place it went but it would require a nut that I don't seem to have)
I HAVE NOT put the "frame stiffeners" back on for a couple reasons. wasn't exactly sure which bolts, and one of the frame stiffeners is broken in half
I have also not replaced the bolts that hold the exhaust pipe to the tranny.
MY best guess at this point is that the four small bolts are for the frame stiffeners, the two medium bolts are for the exhaust to tranny attachment, and that leaves the really long one for the mystery ground wire piece, but I can't seem to make that one fit.
As far as I know right now there are only 3 bolts connecting the bell housing to the engine block. they are three 17mm (one of the top 17mm bell housing bolts was missing when I started.
Is there any obvious place for the long 14mm? is there likely a missing bolt and nut to hold the mystery ground wire piece

ok so now I have moved on. got the car down, drove it around the block.
I had to roll start it though because I can't figure out the correct way to hook up the starter.

OK great, got it all put together looks like it's going to work just fine, starter starts, shifting is fine. can't seem to the the low gear to the far left, it was shifting in there when I first put the thing in, but doesn't want to move over there anymore.
there seems to be a very slight whirr sound related to the wheel or axle. it is not affected by clutch or RPMs, just the rotation of the wheels. I think it may be in the brakes or somwhere. sounds like a very thin metal very lightly rubbing.
could something have been bent while I was working around the wheels?
does this sound like something new brake pads could fix?

Look if the dust shield as been bent it the rotor or something touching it. If so bent it back or remove what touches. if not maybe that mystery UFO you found the ground as something to do with it might be a spacer and a gear is out of line causing grinding. That's all I can see for now!
