obv not a terc, but it is another ugly 80's 4WD toyota.
ad doesn't have a price on it. says it runs fine but is for parts only. weird. according to fueleconomy.gov these things get poor mileage but that site also lists the engine as a 2.2 L when the 22R was a 2.4 L.
anyway, still kinda cool.

I love these things.
if it were not for the awkward positioning of the engine bay, they would be right up there with T4wd (as far as my personal opinion goes)
some of the higher-end models came with little drink refrigerators where the arm rest goes. Oh the simple pleasures in life.

this van does not have the 22R engine, but a push rod engine I think unique to this van (not as tall as overhead cam). You have to pull out the interior (both front seats, carpet and console) to get to the engine hatch, remove a lot of screws and remove the engine cover to do anything major on the engine. Even to replace a fan belt or replace a rad hose. Once hatch is off access is no problem, but getting to the hatch is half the work!

really? curious. i don't like the sound of the push rods, that sounds suspiciously like a VW. i've come to loathe lifters and push rods with my westfalia.

You are talking volkswagon, which never made a reliable car and still do not (I can not figure why they are so popular).
The push rod engine in the Toyota is a good work horse, high torque low rpm engine. Fairly quiet took, despite the fact the driver almost sits on top of it.

I think it is a lot of people who want "German Engineering" and can't afford an Audi/Mercedes/BMW. I'm with you on the undeserved hype that VW enjoys. No WAY would I let a daughter buy one of them, whether before their marriages or now.Petros wrote:You are talking volkswagon, which never made a reliable car and still do not (I can not figure why they are so popular).
It's bad enough that the youngest just bought herself an '11 Jeep Wrangler 4-door POS for her 40th, despite warnings from moi and her sibling. And now she kvetches about how hard the softtop is to remove/install - and how crappy the heater is and how (fill in the blank). I think there have been at least two recalls already on the car since September.

Fifty years of air cooled motors weren't reliable? I guess people bought them because Hitler was such a swell guy. Petros are you Jewish?Petros wrote:volkswagon, which never made a reliable car and still do not (I can not figure why they are so popular).
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.
