Well, an inspiring experience on a back dirt road has led me to have this nagging bug. (I tried to replicate experience on dry road... Ummmmm.... Uncontrolled 4-wheel drifts are not fun until they are over.. Please do not try to replicate my sheer idiocy)
Well, how can we enhance the suspension, drivetrain, balance, and road contact for a drifter or a rally sport?
Please don't say if I want to do this type of thing I need to go buy a WRX or something, because I want to have something special and not oft seen.
Now, for dragging, I guess the best questions I can ask are;
How can I effectively reduce weight without compromising strength (obviously a rollcage would be added if my silly brain ever made this happen)
How can I make the drivetrain sustain repeated explosive launches combined with excessive power?
What the heck is the deal with those specialized suspensions? Who can tell me more about drag-application suspension mods?
How can I stuff an LSD into that front diff?
Who would pay to see a ricer (with good exhaust) Tercel screaming down the track next to a Honda wagon or something?
Rally, Drifting, Dragging..
BWA-HAHAHA!! Tercel ground effects!!! Albeit, newer Tercs... But maybe they could be made to fit.. Or something?

Drift:
Susp:: Front stiff - Rear Hard - Coil Over susp. - Lowered 3"
Tires:: Very Low profile - Hard rubber
You do not want any body roll, wheel hop at all, nor do you want saggy sidewalls to grip the ass-felt either. A good set of camber plates and stretched tie-rods will help but are not necessary.
Rally:
Susp:: Very limber in travel but stiff in toe! - "monster shocks" come to mind (brand). Progressive spring and nitro shocks!!
Tires:: Rally mudders!
You wanna be able to have a soft landing but not bottom out or send you back into the air again.
Drag:
Susp:: You want the front slightly to the soft side, rears stiff with traction aids. You need to bring the weight off the front and put it over the back tires (preferable the passenger (US/CAN) rear tire. YES! You want the car to sag, squat, sit!!! You also want it low to begin with. IOW drag coil overs.
Tires:: front – narrow same diameter as rear or you will blow the diff and tranny, Rears - wide, soft rubber, higher sidewalls to allow for flex, Wrinkle walls are best!
BTW, there is rear coil-over sets that can be purchased for the AE86 that can “theoreticallyâ€Â
