While changing the oil on m '84 last night (and boy did it need it, I decided to take a look at the air filter to see what condition it was in.
It is pretty dirty, and, to boot, there's some oil inside of it as well.
Is this a condition of a faulty PCV valve, or is there somewhere else I should be looking?
TIA,
Jerry
oil inside air cleaner - bad pcv valve?
The air that is drawn into the crankcase and exits thru the PCV valve and into the manifold, comes from inside the air cleaner...guessing that the PCV valve is clogged and not pulling much or any air.
Give a boy a gun-give a biatch a cell phone-and pretty soon you almost got yourself a police state.

I just re-read my post, and was not very clear at all! Sorry.
The outside of the air filter is oily. Likewise, there is oil inside the air cleaner housing, but on the outside edge, not on the inside edge next to the carb's air horn.
But, I see what you're saying, too. I think we're describing the same thing. Rather than jibbering like a monkey on Jolt cola, I'll take another look and see what's up.
Thank you for the quick response!

I've got the same problem with my Weber conversion and I know precisely where the problem is.
My PCV valve is stuffed, hence the vacuum generated by the air cleaner is sucking oil through the lines from the rocker cover.
Get yourself a new PCV valve and when you do, let me know what brand it is so I can get one myself and stop having to spend $10Aus every month on a new aircleaner element.

Being that the PCV valve is only a $4 part, and I was on my way to pep-boys anyway, I purchased one.
I ended up buying the Fram one. It was no more than $4 or so. Fram's part # was FV258.
