Re: Detailing Thread
nope, they've always been this middle of the road light brown. they're the original seats, i only swapped the driver's with the passenger's. or are you thinking of the seats i cleaned in the project car, reggie?

if that's the case, i can take some shots of those as well. i may as well and put them in that thread too so that people can see how they turned out.
*edit* just posted some 'after' photos in the seat cover cleaning thread:

Meguiar's Scratch X or similar works fine. Doesn't have to be Meg's, but I like their stuff.

Heyy - Welcome to the Club! Where are you located?
Try claybarring it before using the Scratch X (good stuff, though!) waxing - I did it almost 5 years ago and was simply amazed. I did it again this past Summer because of some careless overspray on my part and was pleasantly surprised how easy it went the second time, even after 4+ years and that Goldie sits outside - no garage. Your first claybarring will take maybe 4-5 hours, but WELL worth it!
You might do some repainting on the bumpers and plastic trim - there are a couple of threads on it.

Re: Detailing Thread
Just curious, does anyone have a method for removing the black coating from the trim pieces? I think the chrome would look nice, but spray-painting it black sure would be easier.

Re: Detailing Thread
a sharp razor scraper should do it. it would be a lot of work to get it all "chrome".
I like the flat black, easy to maintain. though even with roughing up the metal with sctochbright pad or sand paper, it does need to be repanited every few years.

Re: Detailing Thread
I used the razor scraper method - VERY tedious. Then I used a small foam roller and RustOleum's satin black paint; 11 years later, it is 90% intact.

Re: Detailing Thread
I did something similar, but used fine scotch bright to buff the stainless so the paint would stay. the only place where it came off later was where I left the original coating in place because it was well bonded at the time. apparently the coating is not paint, but some kind of plastic that shrinks with age, and becomes detached. So removing it all of it is the best way to resolve the problem.
