Re: Front brake spacers...
If the matching caliper and rotor, both from the 3rd generation Tercel, are used together I would not think there is any issues with the pad lining up on the rotor complete. They come out of the same car as a set.
I have not pulled my pads, but when I installed them I carefully inspected the pad contact on the rotor, especially through the inspection hole in the center of the outside of the caliper. It looked like the pad was fully on the rotor. I also seem to remember that I stacked the Tercel rotor on both the '85 MR2 and the '92 Tercel rotor to compare the dia. and they were the same. The '87 MR2 supposedly has larger dia rotors but I have not seen any up close. Are you perhaps mixing the later first gen MR2 brakes with the earlier ones?
I enlargered that picture above several sizes and I do not see the wear pattern you are referring to on it. It appears the pads are worn evenly all the way from top edge to bottom edge.

Re: Front brake spacers...
Not necessarily... The shop down the street mentioned just shaving off a bit of the top of the pad would stop the odd wear I have from the beginning on The General (94 tercel calipers and vented rotors w spacers). It's only 2mm or so different on the radius. My main concern is the lack of hubcentric fit of the vented tercel rotors. Once mounted properly, as Petros pointed out, doesn't matter.danzo wrote: I have the same wide calipers and corresponding rotors that Little Red has, but we would need MR2 rotors and spacers to make it work.
@Petros, where my finger is sticking through the viewing hole, you can see a line, basically .5mm of pad that overhangs the top of the rotor. And yes there is a difference between the rotor diameters, 5mm to be exact. And yes, as a set they should be the same, but all that changes when you mount it to a different vehicle. The knuckle bolt holes may line up but that doesn't mean they sit in the same place. Heck, If I remember correctly I have a right caliper on the left and a left on the right because the 3rd gen tercel mounts the caliper on the other side of the strut. And yes, 87+ MR2 front rotors are larger, 258mm dia., and use a longer bracket, same caliper and the same distance on mounting holes on the knuckle. Only thing need to go to a larger rotors on an early aw11MR2s is the larger rotors and the longer caliper brackets.
The Tercel calipers and rotors are much cheaper, easier to get a hold of and seem just as good. With the MR2 rotors the spacer is 4mm thicker for a total of 7.2mm thickness. This would most likely require longer studs, which adds to the price.
So I think the consensus is.... The use of vented 3rd gen Tercel 238mm rotors w/ either aw11 mr2 calipers or 3rd gen Tercel calipers/ Yes?
I/8", 3.18mm thick spacers?? Cause I gotta find material ASAP for the laser cutter.

Yes. BTW no offense on my previous vented caliper remark. It sounded a little rude, sorry. Count me in for a pair and again thanks for your efforts Synth.SynthDesign wrote:The use of vented 3rd gen Tercel 238mm rotors w/ either aw11 mr2 calipers or 3rd gen Tercel calipers/ Yes?
I swear at some point I'll make a trip to the PNW, really sick of the F350 4wd extendo cab dually turbo diesel dolts down here. You guys seem so much more laid back. Isn't it true you can possess a small amount of schmack and the heat doesn't care? Not that I partake, just sayin'. Geez it's getting late.

Sorry guys. Metal shopping was a bust. Even the salvage places want an arm and a leg. $232 for a 4x4' sheet of 1/8". Highway robbery. Holidays have passed and I can now call about to see what I can figure. Sorry for the delay.

Re: Front brake spacers...
Sorry for dragging A$$. I should have a quote in the next day or two hopefully for the spacers from the laser cutter. If it's reasonable, I'll give it a go and we should see them shortly.

Re: Front brake spacers...
The snow here the last week messed everything up. Called the Machine shop and left a message. Really need these spacers soon. Sorry for the delays.

No prob, Synth. Not a time sensitive issue (for me at least).

Synth-- Any update on the spacers? My front brakes are starting to go and I'd rather not get new parts for calipers that are getting replaced anyways.
Thanks!

Re: Front brake spacers...
Well Poop.
So it looks like there was a bit of miscommunication. I just got a confirmation on production date and estimated delivery.
So I guess I committed to the smallest run on their sheet stock. Quantity is listed as 26 units, so 13 pairs should be ready for pickup on Monday the 19th or Tuesday the 20th of next week. If I understand the invoice, it's lookin at $30 a pair unless I'm mis-read something.
Skipperz, Danzo and LilRed and anyone else,
PM me your parcel address and I can figure out shipping and let me know how you'd like it sent. UPS , USPS...
Pics to follow asap.

Yeah, Shrubbery isn't that big of a deal here, well it seems pretty much all of the West Coast of North America touching the Pacific Ocean.danzo wrote: You guys seem so much more laid back. Not legal in the idea of possession recreationally yet, but a medical card is respected in Washington and Oregon at least. Most of Cali is quite close too. And yeah, it's so much better here than what you get in Texas.
