i'm looking for a manual gearbox for the 4wd tercel but what i would like to know is if the engine is positioned in a transverse configuration within the cars

welcome to the list.

why do you ask? You do not own a Tercel4wd now? Never have seen the engine installation in one?

The 4wd gear box is unique to this particular car, it has only a few parts in common with the non-4wd trans version of this car, and nothing in common with any other model. And that makes it hard to find since none have been made since 1987.

If you are considering buying a Tercel with a blown trans, do not commit to buying unless you have a good trans for it first. They are few and far between.
