New here! 1987 Tercel 4WD

Post by Morency »

Hi All,

My name is Nicolas and I'm from Montreal, Canada.

I mainly work on Nissan/Datsun cars as I own a 1986 300ZX turbo & Datsun 280zx 1981

I bought my first Tercel 4WD yesterday after reading lots of good reviews over the net.

Picked her up for 500$. Guy was an a**hole, he didn't told me about all issue that needed attention. Oh well, anyway...

Today I started to work on her, and fixed pretty much all that was needed in order to be able to run her for the winter.

So here it goes :

Tercel 1987 4WD.

194 000KM, timing belt was done at 183 000km....

Fixed the exhaust leak
Welded a home made link kit for the rear swaybar
Replaced the blower motor
Fixed the rust on the top of the hatch with 3$ worth of stickers from the dollarstore.

I'm sooo freakin tired, but that 10 hours + 35$ investment will get me lots of fun for the whole winter.

Welcome to the list!

Good buy on the ride. Hey, at that price you have nothing to complain about. I would be happy to buy as many Tercel4wd at that price and condition as I can get! The '87 also has those nice composite headlights and the more modern seats.

New daily driver starting today.

Car color was originally 'Tan/gold'. New green paintjob, looks really decent for a 500$ car!

Went offroading a bit today, grass drifing is fun, but I CAN'T wait for some snow...

Sound system is working, no leak from the sunroof. Very smooth on the road, very soft steering, very comfy... drinks about no fuel... Yay!

Notice the switch? That's the 1$ switch setup to fix the non-working blower. Had the change the brush of the motor as the were worn off.
'High option' only, didn't even bother installing a fuse, blower is shooting a huge flow of hot air, and that's what I want.

Welcome! How do you like the automatic? I find them to drive smoother than the manual transmission versions, but at the expense of responsiveness.

I don't have much to say about the automatic so far.

I would really like a RPM to tell me where I'm at at 110KM/h since the motor seem to be reving pretty high...

First snow in Montreal this morning...

Tercel 4WD = WIN!!! Jesus, first 4 wheel drive for me, this is crazy

Got stuck in 2 feet of mud, but still managed to get out there and go back to work.

A better view of the mud...

Quelle belle Tercel!

because of the low ground clearance on these little Tercel4wd, the work better when you keep the car between the ditches and shinny side up. Stay clear of those soft muddy ditches! If you get ice you will want a set of studded snow tires for your Tercel.

I have never had so much fun on icy roads than in my Tercel4wd with studded snow tires on it! Out performed all the silly monster trucks and SUVs on the ice because it was so light compared to the Detroit and European heavy metal.

Just HAD to try that 4WD out? Good place to start? I'd have never gotten my wagon out of that ditch on it's own.
