You might also add that it has the inclinometer.
Hmmm - I could have a "highway-geared" Goldie and a "town-geared" Goldie.
Hmmm...
Did you check the MPG when driving from CA to MN?

that would be the correct valve cover for the '84, but you list in the avatar "my tercel: 1986". That yellow tag at the back of the valve cover I thought was only on the import engines, though it just might be the way Toyota marked each engine. never noticed them on the few "original" engines I have seen.

She didn't come with the inclinometer :( Adding one would be easy though (if you could find one)

I got between 25-30MPG with a big fat canoe and a bunch of gear in the rear. Not really going slow like I usually do either. That's pretty spot on for a stock carb isn't it? I've pulled 33-37 in my yellow weberized put'n around Saskatchewan :)

Someone buy this beauty already!

ah yes. I see now. Yeap, I've had 5 or 6 of these buggers in the past couple years. I think my yellow rust free keeper is an 85. The silver winter that splat now has is an 87 (I think) I had an 86 DLX and then there's the 85 rusty goldy I just picked up locally here...and the 84 beaut. Got that? :)

Ahh, So to the inclinometer. I thought North American '84s came with it and not just the '83s.

This is not an '84, it's an '85, the VIN # should have a F at the 10th digit. It has the diamond pattern seats, which was exclusive to the '85 model year, that would explain why it's missing the inclinometer. I see the air cleaner has the AS reed valve, which would be consistent with the fact that it's a CA car.

Do that man know his T4WDs or do that man KNOW his T4WDs!

So - what is the build date? It's on the plate on the B-pillar, driver side.

Yes, I was also going to point out that those seats, and that shade of brown, are from the '85. The antenna is also on the right side, also indicating it is an '85. So that means that is not the orignal engine, that embossed valve cover (Toyota) only comes on '83-84. And I am fairly sure that yellow tag on the valve cover comes on the import engines.

both the stock 3A from my '87 and in the parts car ('86) have the yellow sticker on the valve cover. they both say "3A-L75W." i have all the service records for ron so i know that it was the stock engine.

I have seen those yellow stickers before on a variety of stock 3A-C/4A-C engines. The fact that the valve cover has the TOYOTA lettering is strange as I have not seen it on post-'84 engines, but maybe because of the build date it has that valve cover, I don't know.

Hi Everyone,

I'm happy to report this clean lil' bugger went to a GREAT home in Southern Minnesota (where they don't salt the roads!) That means it will stay amongst us for a long time. I can't think of a better match: organic farm, 30-something couple with kids, a local brew pub only 2 miles away. I hope they sign up here.

Thanks everyone for your imput. Now it's time to find a bright red minty 88 SR-5! :)
