Boy, that car looks familiar - especially with that rack. Dunno if here or eBay.

Spoke with the guy for a bit. I'm gonna take a look at it later this week. Blue checker'd SR5 interior BTW

Service wise, it's on it's 2nd trans and got a clutch along with that two years ago. Also had a timing belt/tensioner and water pump recently. Owner mentioned CV axles down the line but sounds like he's taken good care of it.

Wheels are 14x5" Ultras. All I know about them is that they are HEAVY. 18lb for a 14" rim is a bit much.

Interesting weight on the wheels - I put Gen I Miata wheels (daisies) on Goldie last year; they weigh 12.2#, compared to that year's stock steelies at 18#. Member sdoan has Gen II Miata wheels which weigh 10.8-11.5# depending on having being hollow, semi-hollow, or solid spokes (!).

I think the comment about getting a note from mommy is meant to dissuade whiners from making excuses about not having the $$ ready at the time of the sale. I've sold lots of stuff on CL and there's always some story about someone needing an extra few days to get money together or to wait until their brother posts bond to get out of jail. Then, when you wait for them, then don't answer calls or they've changed their minds. I've been there a hundred times!

Sometimes you gotta play hardball to get people to do pull the trigger on a big purchase. That said - I think this one is an excellent buy for $2,500 (minus negotiating room). 178k on its 2nd tranny sounds like a solid ride.

you're probably right, DJ. i'm sure we've all got stories of similar incidents. i hate getting offers for 1/2 of what i'm asking just an hour after posting it. i don't even respond to those. and then tirekickers who look at whatever item and piss and moan "oh, jeez, well, it doesn't look as good as it did in the photo," but really they're lying through their teeth and just trying to lowball you. i sold some tires to a guy who did this but i had other people interested so i just said no thanks and he got really huffy and pretty much threw the full price in cash at me. i guess some people play it like a game but jenkeys, i don't have the time or patience for it.

Well, first you take the wheel off the car and then you dismount the tire, and then you...

But seriously - the Miata Club site has a mind-blowing amount of detail on their cars, including weights on each OE wheel Mazda has stuck on their cars - and assorted AM wheels as well.
I actually hit the site a couple of times per week. The amount of info these guys have on absolutely every facet of their cars with mods and repair info is simply - staggering! Lots of tips on interior and exterior stuff that are also applicable to our little guys. That is the Club from which I stole the idea for our Tool Talk Forum.
It has 40K members, with over 9K active members world-wide!
As an example, at this very moment (5:44 PM, CDT, it has 741 logged on!).
Take a gander at the sheer number of topics! http://forum.miata.net/vb/

As per how I know it's an Ultra and the weight, my roommate has 3 on his civic, one got curbed bad and I weighed it before it went to the recycler. It weighs almost exactly as much as the replacement 14x5 steelie he replaced it with.

And when it comes to wheels, I'm a weight weenie. My MR2 runs Enkei RPF1's in a 15x7 and they weigh 9.5lbs a piece and they've become my standard towards judging wheels.

Hopefully I will have time to look at it tomorrow.
