Post by CathodeRayTube »

This is my latest automotive impulse purchase...Im not entirely sure im going to keep it very long or do much to it, but i do like it and im sure i can sell it for a profit. Purchased for $900, 89K miles, only one small rust spot on trunk, no issues, runs/drives fine and everything works. 5.0l Windsor V8, EFI. Power windows/seats, Fixed the AC the day i brought it home. supposedly gets 18 city/26MPG highway. nickname: Markis ...

18/26 MPG on one of these big honkers?
Flip it - you may get too accustomed to quiet and comfort...

we have a '98 Buick my parents gave us (very low miles). It gets similar fuel economy, amazing for something so big. I hate the way it rides and feels, I feel like my dad when I drive it (only "old" people drive Buicks!). But my wife is really getting used to it I am afraid, she refuses to go anywhere in my Tercel now. Is that a bad thing?

Everything you could ever want to know about it... http://www.grandmarq.net/

Oh, and from my experiences youll be lucky to break over 20mpg. Very very lucky. But at the price you picked it up youll definitely be able to flip for a profit. Does it have the Vinyl top? if so, DO NOT Armour-all the top. It will crack into a thousand little cracks and look horrible.

That car has a fine engine but it is connected to the Ford AOD tranny. I strongly suggest you flip it before the tranny fails. You are actually worse off with one of these cars with low mileage as the trans has most likely not failed yet. Any competent trans shop can perform the needed updates when they rebuild the AOD. Properly rebuilt & updated it is a decent trans.

I have known at least three guys in the last few years who have bought variants of your car. All were low mileage and were bought for cheap. I warned them all about the AOD tranny. All the AOD's failed in short order....

This is anecdotal, but...a friend and I were talking cars just last week. He mentioned that one of his Mercs died for just this reason quite a few years ago, and he then found out about the dreaded AOD tranny.
