I just swapped out the d*%# rearend and the new one started making a grinding noise after i had it loaded with some weight . It has done it ever sense and seems to be getting worse . I have read threads on carrier bearings and axle bearings. Whats got me baffled is it gets way worse when I am turning at high speeds (freeway on ramps and such). Any ideas on what i freaking need to replace this time? Winter is coming and I need to get this freaking figured out. Thanks peeps
when you say "rear end" what exactly do you mean
the entire axle unit ? if so you may have swapped a bad one for another bad one
the differential only? it may not have been the problem
sounds to me like the axle bearings are bad
they will sound worse duing turns (left turn right bearing noise --right turn left bearing noise)
they are fairly easy to check
pull wheel
pull brake drum
remove (4 ) 14mm nuts using access hole thru axle hub
if axle does not pull out easily
you may have to borrow a slide puller
try not to let axle drop when it pulls free (might damage seal)
when you get the axle out rotate the bearing
it should not make any noise
it should be smooth
if its real bad it will be wobbly too
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
I echo xirdneh's remarks and would additionally query - what is "some weight?" Does the sound disappear with "no weight?" Perhaps the weight was the straw that broke the camel's back.
If you're looking for OE part numbers - check the OE and AM Parts Forum for a thread I made. I would wholeheartedly endorse buying the seals and gaskets.
Replacing the bearings is not a hard job at all - you will just need to take the axles to a shop for removal of the old bearings and pressing of the new ones and their retainers.
Do drain the oil from the pumpkin first before removing the axles...and make sure the filler plug can be removed before removing the drain plug.

swapped the whole unit out. Ironically the "weight" was a 12 ton shop press I bought from a mechanic. It's just frustrating because i swapped rear ends not even 1000 miles ago to avoid the bearing thing. I just thought it was weird it just showed up as soon as I put the press in there for transport. The freaking irony is killing me Lord knows I will not be purchasing a cherry picker anytime soon I think I remember reading something about an oil bath. Is that necessary? The front suspension all needs done too. Looks like the ol turdsmell is getting a whole new undercarriage this winter. Might as well lift the ol girl while I am at it
When my shop pressed it and the retainer on, while aware of the FSM's mention of the heated oil bath for the retainer, I did not ask, figuring it was experienced enough to know what to do - and I also did not want to see the raised eyebrows of a real wrench toward the amateur, however gifted (despite them knowing I was a bicycle wrench)...

That sounds more like a rear wheel bearing to me too, they seem to wear out much more fewquently that any other bearings in the drive train. If noise is louder on right hand turns (like a fwy on/off ramp) it is likely the left rear wheel bearing. If you still have your old axle assembly you might remove the left axle and turn the bearing by hand, should be smooth. If so just swap them out, you will not need to press the bearing out.
If you can not find a good bearing on your axles, take the axle to a NAPA store, they usually have the bearing in stock and can press it on for you for a very reasonable fee.
