carb choke jet?

Post by barm »

ok so there is a inline device on a vacuum line runs from the side of the choke to near the base of the carb. it looks like a check valve but is not. it is also yellow in color. the factory service manual has this labeled as a jet. the toyota dealership near hear says it is a obsolete part and is no longer available. they also don't know what the function of it is. can somebody tell me what it supposed to do? and how do i test it?

thanks

The FSM has a test procedure for these - check it again.

I would guess it is a jet, to atenuate the vac responce from the throttle area to prevent the choke from slamming open when you stomp on the throttle. Only test would be to verify that it is not blocked.

the FSM says test for stoppage, so is it faulty if it has stoppage or dose it pass? i have cleaned it and it dose seem to let air pass very slowly in either direction under heavy vac.

if it is stopped up it failed the test, if it flows air it passes as good. It needs to flow some vac, but not full throttle plate vacuum. When you stomp on the throttle when it is cold (choke still closed) the idea is the choke will partically or fully open so you do not stall the engine from an overly rich mixture and/or not enough air gets past the choke to keep it running. If it is blocked the choke will not open when the throttle is fully open. so you passed the test.
