Despite scoring a good deal on my rusty '84, one of the items that previously fell off was the muffler.

While the little 3ac doesn't sound much louder than the rice-boys that run around CA with their coffee can exhaust systems, it does add to the white trash factor and, as such, I'm thinking about getting something to put on it.

Has anyone done a "stock muffer vs no muffler" economy / power comparison? (Rest of my exhaust system is stock, and it does have the cat in place.)

Any good, economical aftermarket mufflers you'd recommend? Power is good, but so a nice tone that won't make your ears ring after a few hours at highway speeds.

TIA,

Jerry

If the muffler is off of it...the rest will follow in a year or so...cheapest is a small glasspack.

I saw a early-mid-80s tercel hatchback today...not a wagon or 4wd but just a hatchback....dragging some muffler pipes.....

that car (and the cars we talk about here) are most DEFINETELY the quintessential "white trash" or "trailer trash" vehicle.
Well....when I think "trailer trash" I think....1990 Pontiac.
So I guess "white trash"

uh oh! I live in a trailer park! and I have a tercel 4wd! and I USED to have the worlds biggest, rustiest, 4wd Dodge Ramcharger parked outside.
hmm
"white trash" anyone?

You ought to see my family and house though... lol. When you have a dead washing machine out front along with dead cars, a broken hammoc, a weed-riddin front yard, and a pile of old bicycles, a lot of people consider you white trash. Oh yeah, and a dirty mattress sitting by the back door (the kitties like sleeping on its edge, as it is sitting against a wall)
