the van is all set for our road trip so i've been doing some of the fun stuff on it. a while ago i bought rolls of vinyl stickers from a local screen printer for pin striping so i cleaned the surfaces that were going to get stickered with methyl hydrate. then i used green masking tape and followed the lines of the vehicle (not hard since it's boxy and angular), measured afterward to make sure the lines were relatively consistent, and then cut and applied the lengths of pin stripes. here's how it turned out.
i like it! i was going for an 80's toyota vibe with the colour gradient. i think it makes the van look way more fun. so far they've held up to the beating sun, 30* heat, and bath i just gave the van.

Looks good! The stripes break up the expanse of black just right.

Re: pin stripes on the westfalia
nice color choice. I would have went with 1" wide strips, more neon "hippie" look, and even more fun.

Re: pin stripes on the westfalia
thanks! i love black with purple and pink, i think it looks hot. i'm lucky the purple stripe matches the purple paint i used on the various other highlights (air vents, utility boxes).Petros wrote:nice color choice. I would have went with 1" wide strips, more neon "hippie" look, and even more fun.
i thought about using thicker stripes too, actually. what i had envisioned was about a 1" purple stripe, 3/4" mauve, and 1/2" pink, with about 1/2" between each but i found that the stripes were cut into only 1" and 1/2" widths so i decided to play it safe and not overdo it. the next time i do pinstripes i'm going to try overdoing it though!

I had a friend that used to say "anything worth doing is worth overdoing". pin strips are like that.
