Having trouble taking transmission apart
Having trouble taking transmission apart
Hello everyone I'm new to the forum and have been searching and reading through it all to do various mods and repairs to lovely little blue beater. When I got this poor abused little car 1st gear did the whole bang and pop out if you try to use it so I ordered a used tranny just to find the gears on the input shaft as well as those that go to the front diff to be stripped (don't order from www.engineandtransmissionworld.com). But I'm hopeful that maybe the shifting gears in the back of the tranny are better then the ones i have in the car. My biggest problem now is trying to figure out how to get it apart. So far i have gotten the front diff. off but can't get the section that the input shaft mounts in separated from the rear part containing the shifting gears. I'm sure there is a post about this but I must not be putting the correct search criteria in. Any direction that can be given would be very much appreciated, opinions and words of wisdom are also worth their weight in gold. Thanks!!!

You should use FSM
i have taken several apart
there are pins to remove thru small openings
it would be to difficult to explain here
use the manual

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
Re: Having trouble taking transmission apart
Hey guys thanks for the quick response and sorry for my late reply. The FSM was still kind of lacking for me and my mechanic friend but he just got a recent job at a shop with "ALLDATA" and it gave a very in depth how to on dis-assembly. It turns out the shift fork that moves between 1st and 2nd was heavily worn on my tranny but to my amazement first gear and synchros barely had any wear dispite the times i would hold the shifter in place and make it start in first. And the other Tranny that was the only aluminum shift fork that wasn't FUBAR. So the forks were swapped and finally i can see how it feels to drive the car with 1st gear and a fresh clutch. LOVE IT!!!! I was curious for future reference does the rebuild kit come with the shift forks? of is there anywhere to order them I remember seeing a thread about a guy who was trying to get his dad's car in Africa running but needed a shift fork and someone sent a link where he could order one. I have attached a pic to show how bad the wear is. But once again thanks for your advice and quick replies.

You wouldnt be able to get any directions from the AllData program and post them up would you? If not, I can just wait for the local highschool to start and get it my ole shop teacher.
