i had been planning on cleaning the rust out but it looks like a guy i know has one in good shape that he's happy to give to me so that's a blessing and a half. the filler neck is pretty bad too though so i'm hoping he has a spare one of those, too.

i've been saving the worst job for last on the VW but i can't put it off anymore. today i drained the ~50 L of gas from the van and set about cutting all the rusted hose attachments off. dropped the tank down, some leftover gas slopped out and it was dark, dark orange. drained that slop, here's what the inside of the tank looks like.
