Turn Signal Woes - Flasher Location?

Post by SweetwaterJoe »

Guys,

I'm sure this question has been asked before and really I did scour the archives but what I thought was going to be a simple fix has turned into something quite a bit more.

My turn signals would flash normal then stop. The best guess I had was the flashed relay was overheating. I went to the FSM on here and saw where it was approximately located. I then checked my new old Bentley then the Chilton. After crawling under the dash I decided it had to be behind the instrument cluster. That is almost out but now I am second guessing myself. Do you have to take the cluster out to get to the flasher unit??? Or can you get to it from under the dash ( no disaasembly required)?

Thanks (and sorry for a question I know has been answered somewhere on here).

the flasher unit is usually on the left side of the steering column and every original equipment flasher i have seen has been green
should be able to get at it from under dash but it is tucked away
i do not think removing instrument cluster will help
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

It is either going to be on the driver side pillar by the fuse box, you'll have to pull some of the trim to get at it or it will be buried a bit deeper (like about where you are saying) but you should be able to pull the large lower panel and the venting duct and get to it without removing the instrument cluster if I recall correctly.
