Needed: Crankshaft pulley with PS pulley attached

Post by deejay1272 »

I'm still looking for a crankshaft pulley that has the power steering pulley attached (uh, with all four bolts please). Mine crapped out big time during my recent timing belt replacement job and thus I have no way to hook up the power steering pump without a shit-load of wobble.

I can get one at the junk yard with relative ease, but I though I'd check here first. Of course I'll pay for shipping if someone has a spare laying around.

not that i'm interested in it personally but i was yakking with a guy yesterday who prefers non-power steering and non-power brakes. his rational is the same as mine for not liking A/C, that it robs the engine of performance and economy. he said that each component eats up roughly 3 HP which doesn't sound like much but when dealing with little engines like ours, he prefers to go without power assisted stuff and take the extra power. i had never even thought about that so it was pretty interesting.

that said, worst case scenario: drive it w/o power steering for a while and gain power and economy!

I don't know about his hp loss claims. I have driven my Terc without p/s and the brake booster disconnected but didn't notice any power or mpg increase. The p/s pump is very easy to turn (a/c with clutch engaged is a different ball of wax), and I'm not sure why he would think the brake booster would hurt engine power. It's still a closed system, i.e. no vac leaks.
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.
