2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited...

Post by ARCHINSTL »

My youngest daughter is listening to - who knows? She is strongly considering a new Wrangler Unlimited (four-door).
Dunno the model of it, but prob loaded and with Chrysler's AT. Of course, her "off roading" would consist of parking on the grass at a soccer game...
The mpg is horrible (15/19), and she complains now about what her mileage is with her Camry (!).
She will pay no attention to Consumer Reports' rating of it as basically a POS (note that I don't particularly care for CU, but it IS a guide).
She won't pay attention to what I or other car peeps tell her - or online reviews of the horrible build quality and leaky everything and crappy ride.
Does it have ANY redeeming features for a suburban Mommy?

Myself, I've never been a fan of the Jeep lineup. How can a vehicles that leak so much oil be so rusty? I could go on and on. Won't do much good though. Most people are going to buy what they think they need/want no matter what anyone says.

I've seen a slogan that best describes it. "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand". Some people might think the same of us though...

As far as redeeming, hummmm. Will it make her look cool or her butt smaller? :)

If she wants's a smaller more practical domestic suv, I'd say go with an Escape.

I DID have to laugh at that (I can do that, as she is unaware of the Club).

15/19? give me a break. some joker on the VW forum was talking about how his relative is envious of the 15 mpg he gets in his westfalia. i don't know how these people survive like that.

if she thinks gas is bad in a camry, she's going to have a heart attack when she takes that jeep to the pumps. and the price is only going up.

sometimes people just have to learn by experience.

dlb - I surely agree with your last sentence...
Well - she turns f-f-f-forty this year. She makes beaucoup bucks with a Fortune 500 company and is working on her MBA.
Her husband has some honker la-la Ritzy Ram faux p'up something or another and of course encourages it.
I was just looking for something to admire whenever she gets it. I guess I'll just not pay attention to it.
What do I know?

How about upkeep? The newest Heep I've worked on is a Liberty. It has only reinforced my low opinion of the brand. Not that I'm against broken cars....
