Bearing cap removal

So what's the trick? I was thinking of getting some hooked picks with handles and seeing if I could work the point of one in to break it loose. I am stuck at this point and the weather is supposed to be really nice. If I don't get some suggestions I may just go play golf for a few hours today. I want to get Bb back on the road but I am really afraid of messing things up worse then they are by some ham handed use of force.

i always tap or pry left or right side
never fore and and/or aft

The connecting rod bearing caps are easiest to remove by wiggling back and fourth as Xirdneh points out. I usually just tap the bolt ends to slip the rod (and piston) up in the cylinder, and the cap falls off. The wood handle of a hammer, or the plastic handle end of a large screw driver is usually enough. there will be some suction from the motor oil in the journal, that is why wiggling or tapping it helps. Lots of light taps is all it should need.

I would not recommend removing a main bearing cap, it is much more difficult to remove and the mains are likely just fine. They very rarely ever are bad enough to need to replace in a situation like yours, and they are much more difficult to get the new one in as compared to the connecting rods.
