Leaking gear oil all of a sudden.

I just put this trans in this car last week. I would have to say I have no luck at all with transmissions in general.

Anyways, I park in 3 different places at work. 1rst spot, level ground. Didnt see any problems.
2nd spot I park facing up hill a little bit. Walked out to the car to come to dinner and whoa! theres a little puddle of gear oil under there. Id say the puddle was about 7x5 inches length and width. (Its a slight hill)
Parking spot #3 is flat ground again. Ill let yall know if its still dripping after work. Im also taking my wrench and an extra quart incase.

One thing is for sure. Its coming from the BACK of the trans.

Possible contributing factors:
I have 4 inches of lift in the back, maybe this is keeping it from coming out on flat ground?
I did have a hard time getting the driveshaft in the trans when I put it back together, could I have damaged the seal?
Also, I put 5 quarts in when I filled the trans instead of just 4.1. Could this just be the excess leaking out? I know its not supposed to leak AT ALL, but maybe I damaged the seal and the extra fluid is coming out? (I know the extra fluid might foam and whatnot and cause hell, but after filling it, I stuck my finger in the hole and didnt feel anything, so I added till I could.)

Im parked facing downhill right now in my driveway. Before I leave to go back to work Ill post if its leaking or not.

I had this same problem last Summer when parking uphill (on even just a slight incline) and nothing leaking on level parking. Mine was not as dramatic as yours - just a number of drops.
It was the tailshaft housing (aka extension housing) seal that needed replacing - same as you deduced. Mine "just wore out." I thought the internal bushing needed replacing also, so I bought one but did not install it - just did the seal - no leaks so far... I did buy 2 of the seals in case I boogered one - not expensive and would need one if I ever replace the bushing.
Check the FSM for proper insertion.
There was a recent thread on this and I made a longer one last August or so. There are also relevant OE part numbers in the new Parts Numbers Forum.

Thanks Tom, I already found your thread, nice write up. Can I get the seal from Napa or autozone or do I have to go through the dealer?

Dunno on AM sourcing - I needed other stuff from Butler, so did not look further. It wasn't expensive - less than $7.

here's my post from when i did it recently.

keep in mind though that the manual states in the troubleshooting section on page MT-2 that too much oil will cause the trans to leak and .9 quarts is a lot of extra. i added a bit extra oil to my trans and have had one of the CV seals leak since. i replaced it with a new one that i have taken out and put back in 4 times now, measuring carefully and seating evenly, but it still drips. i think my next move is to put an oil pan under the trans, open the front fill plug, lower the car so it's on even ground, drain whatever extra there is, put it back together and see if that cures it.

Ah....well, I guess Im not going to worry about it for now. I will be checking my fluid level every couple of days though until I deem its safe.

i am pretty sure thats the wrong seal
housing bore is less than 1"
the ext housing bore is larger than that
beck arnley 0523899 should work
make sure rockauto part is for "extension housing"

i ordered the wrong part for this once too

Thanks for clearing that up. I did search for extension housing seal or whatever and thats what it came up with.
