What's the dilly with that thing? Every board I have been a member of, has seen its share of people saying "do I need to replace my oxy sensor?" well now it is my turn! hehheh I only think of it because my engine idles like crap, and my gas mileage sucks.

I SAW it when I had my exhaust all apart, it was white, does that mean anything? probably not....and more importantly, WHAT does it DO? on this car? Obviously on a car with computer controlled this and that it would do stuff but on this car? huh? wha?

There is a computer, only instead of controlling fuel injectors, it controls a valve called the Electronic Bleed Control Valve which lets in extra air to the intake manifold to make the mixture lean. It only works under idle and cruising, not when you are accelerating or running at a high rpm.

I replaced my old scuzzy O2 without testing it and saw no difference. I'd run the voltmeter tests on it 1st. And you should test your EBCV thinga ma bob...could explain the lean condition?

"I have a 87 Tercel that was getting pretty crapy gas mileage and ran very rough, it would almost and sometimes would stall out at stop lights. I took it the Toyota dealer and they repaced two valves on the outside of the motor, the VSV and BSC valves. I never knew they existed before that. After that + a tune up and the car ran smooth as the day it was made, and I got back all the gas mileage (around 40 MPG). If you think you need them I still have the bill with the part numbers."

VSV controls your EVAP system...BSC??????

That sounds like a 3E engine. If it was an 87 and not a wagon, that's what engine it had. The carbs and vacuum systems on the 3E are alot worse than ours to fix.
