A LOT better than the blue! Looks good with the black bumpers.

...it was white, tom. unless you're referring to something else. but it does look great, i love the matte green. i would clean up around the windows and sunroof but besides that it looks dope.

is your oil leak at the back of the engine not from the fuel filter like someone suggested? it sure looks like it. the 4A swap is very straightforward but it's not really that much more powerful--i didn't notice it, anyway--so it's almost definitely easier to fix whatever leaks you have on your 3A.

Thanks guys. I ike the army paint theme too. Satin green looks good outside, in the nature 8) It was a major PITA to remove the stripes thou, it had to be done in two parts. First had to use the heater gun to get the plastic off, and then use paint thinner to get the sticky glue-stuff off. Took me 8 hours to prepare the car. The painting took about 5 hours, and it was fun. I know i have some cleaning up to do, around windows, sunroof, and some other places too. But that's what you get using a brush instead of spray.

David, I didn't notice anyone commenting about the oil leak, but it seems to come behind the engine. Just from the place you can't see even with the mirror so good. I don't know where there should be a fuel filter, my fuel hoses seem to come behind the breast-plate(?) and directly to the mechanic fuel pump.I even tried to remove the cylinder head cover, to check the gasket and tighten all the ch bolts just in case, but the cover didn't move. I opened all the three bolts on top, but no luck. And since I don't have any spare gaskets around, I didn't want to use force and break the current one. I suspect that someone has used gasket sealent of some sort, and the cover is pretty well glued to its place.

I know where I can get a 60,000 km driven Tercel 3 A engine, it's a japan import one, with the stock carb included. Asking prise is about 400 eur, so it's a bit hight though.

But I also have one 300,000 km driven spare engine, with the whole car, that was included in the sale, when I bought my car. The seller said that the engine run fine, but I don't know until summer, since the spare car is outside under snow somewhere. maybe I'll get the engine from that one, and rebuilt it, and rock on 8) I have to admit, that I'm not that experienced with the car engines, I've mostly fiddled with mopeds and motorcycles when I was younger. But luckily this Toyota engine seems so simple, that even a dumbass like me may eventually make it :D

sorry, you're right that i got mixed up. another new member posted pics of their engine bay and had a leak from what looked to be the fuel pump. the likely culprits for a leak back there are the fuel pump, the valve cover gasket, the head gasket, and the distributor o-ring gasket. only the head gasket is a pain to remove, the others are all pretty quick. your valve cover is probably just stuck on from years of sitting so grab another gasket and give 'er hell.

nice that you have a spare terc! that's a good idea to rebuild the engine and throw it in yours whenever you have some serious engine problems. i would do a compression test while it's still in the car so that you have an idea what you will need to do on it. with 300k km on it you may want to do the rings and hone the cylinders anyway but maybe it already had that done fairly recently, who knows. a compression test will help determine that.

Well,
finally managed to find a spare gasket kit, so I took the valve cover off.cleaned all around, changed all the gaskets, and i think some of the leaks were on the fuel pump, and on the half circular blug behind the engine. I thought that I checked them before, but only when the valve cover was off, I could clearly see the whole thing. We'll see tomorrow how she'll hold up, I'll let the permatex dry out overnight first. If this wont help, it's head gasket changing time...

I also looked at the carb, and while changing the vacuum hoses, and i was wondering, should the secondary valve/flap open all the way, or is it normal that it stays a bit closed. I just looked around engine stopped, pulling and pushing the rods etc, didn't check engine running and pedal down. But I guess pulling the levers should work as well?
