Great Gas Mileage in my '83 =)

So I usually use my '83 4WD just as an around-town beater; and when booting around town aggressively in and out of 4wd it gets around 30mpg (imperial gallon) still. Today I was curious as to what kind of gas mileage I could get on the highway, so I took it on a small trip out of town.

The folks in the wagon included me and two passengers, all of us over 200lbs... so about 650 lbs of people in the wagon. We drove 286km (179miles) of mostly highway miles (232km on the highway, 54 in city... I measured...)

Once I got home I had to WORK to squeeze 20.19l of fuel (4.4 imperial gallons) into the tank. That's over 40mpg (imperial gallon) loaded with fat people! Admittedly I drove really sedately, trying to get the best mileage possible... and succeeded.

Not bad for an '83 with 446K on the odometer, eh?? (OK, yes the engine was rebuilt a while back, new pistons/rings/etc. but still, what still, what a great little wagon!)

I work that out to about 33.5 mpg for US gallon, which is fairly normal with good gas. You likely can still buy real gasoline there, not the crap the feds force us to buy here.
