POPS OUT OF FIRST

just recently my 85 4x4 tercel has been popping out of first, when ever i'am at a stop then start to let the clutch out it just pops out, i have too repeatedly shuv it back to get it to finally go in, i think its the synchros but not sure, anyone else who has this to, or knows what it is for sure?

Sorry to hear that. Not likely synchros cause that, it is wearing out. How many miles are on the trans? You might try putting in half and half ATF and cheap gear oil, drive for a few days, make sure it gets good and warm on high speed drive at freeway speeds, drain it and than refill with fresh quality gear oil.

That will scrub and clean out any sludge or metal shavings caught in bad places. If that does not do, it is just the first sign of heavy wear. the whole trans may fail eventually, but the ATF flush and refill may make it last a bit longer. good luck.

its got 210,000, ill post som pics! the lady my dad bought it from said she hadnt changed the oil in the engine for a while, i just changed it yesterday and it was pitch black...so im scared to see the tranny oil,it probly has never been touched D: but ill deffinatley try that out!

a bungee cord to hold the stick in gear is a low cost fix.;-) try the ATF flush and let us know what happens.
