Leak near viser hinge area.

Post by xirdneh »

I live in western Washington where it rains quite a bit. Recently my car began to leak out of the ceiling on the drivers side. It happens when i hit the brakes after a good rain. Water comes out of the trim above the window in the corner.

I'm thinking water is getting into the roof space somehow. I do not have a sunroof.

it does sound weird that it leaks when you hit the brakes. it's obviously pooling near the back. have you checked the roof for any pinholes? maybe in the gutters above the doors. crap and debris can lodge there, if you haven't cleaned them out they could have rusted through. also, check at the back hatch where the hose for the rear window washer fluid enters the hatch. if the rubber boot that houses the line is damaged water could get in there.

windshields are a common leak site, it happens on old vehicles all the time. you can take it to an auto upholstery place and they can test it pretty quickly. i don't think that's it but if everything else checks out i would look there as well.

Both my leaky T4's were caused by windshield frame rust. My 84 just took a hard push to remove. It was only really attached at the bottom To fix that correctly the windshield has to come out and then rustoration performed.

To get by until that can be done there is special windshield silicone. It's slightly watery so it flows in to the leak.

mine leaks the same way, not much but still annoying. My windshield was replaced by previous owner and I suspect it is getting in at the seal (was not done very well). It only leaks when the car is parked at a certain angle and it rains hard, and first time I put on the brakes I get dripping from the upper trim around the window. I think the windshield had to come out and be reset.

Lots of rain last night. It really leaked, creating a puddle on the floor.
When the rain stopped i got out the garden hose and narrowed the leak down to the front of the car. Pulled the windshield trim off the outside and some on the inside. Drenched it again with the hose. The leak is in the top left corner of the windshield. I blew some compressed air and heat gunned it then smeared butyl caulk. We shall see what happens next time it rains.

well i do have to worry as my car had a half inch of water on the drivers side floor this morning
still coming out of the upper left corner of the windshield
back to square one

you're a hendrix nut! i liked his backing band more than i liked jimi, personally, but i admit jimi was a phenomenal artist.

take it to a reputable upholstery place. they'll have it done quick and it should be fairly inexpensive. then you might want to rip out the underlay since that sh*t never dries. i've had a few bad experiences with it.

i always loved little richard too but if you want to see something super f*cking weird involving him and james brown, check out this clip of them on wheel of fortune. lil' rich looks like frankenstein or something, his head and hands are huge.

Really? Well, I guess so, or you wouldn't have posted it. Was it in the late '50s?
