Introducing Rodney

Post by reeder123 »

Took Rodney out for some off-road testing yesterday and was very impressed, went through plenty of mud and climbed a nice steep hill and he had no problems or hesitation at all!

I took a few hills in Wyoming that looked like where your car is sitting in and crapped out the trans in the car....a bearing went out. Good idea to watch the bigger rocks and keep them from centering under the alum trans. Otherwise Rodney's lookin' good. Be sure and change out Rodney's gear oil...he will thank you.

Thanks for the tip! I don't plan on taking him on these kinds of roads very often, but I had to satisfy my curiosity and see what he could do.

Can you share any more about Rodney? How many miles, how long have you had it, new paint?, etc.

Thanks - and welcome to the Forum...

I'm sorry, I'm new to forums so all the info on Rodney is scattered onto 2 or 3 different posts. He's at 225k original miles, I'm the 2nd owner, Paint is original there's a little rust starting to creep in a little on the fenders and a little on the back hatch door. I've had him for about 6 months, but finally had the carb rebuilt and started driving it about 4 days ago. So far so good, I had a little trouble with the idle speed at first, but that's been adjusted and fixed and he's been a champ. The interior isn't bad, I'll give it a good cleaning when I get some free-time. The heater stopped blowing warm air and I need to look into that (I'm sure I can find some help on the repair forums) Feel free to ask more questions if there's something I missed. I'm excited to be a part of this small but faithful group of t4wd lovers.

Not yet, I have a pretty intense work schedule, I work 7 10 hour shifts in a row, and then have the next 7 days off, and i've been "on" this week, I can rarely get anything extra done, but I'll be getting to it next week. Needless to say it's been chilly driving Rodney around.

You two need to drive out to the salt flats and see who's faster?
