I just got the new JDM brochure today with the 4WD sedan in it. I've also had an older one that I never scanned because these are too big. I just scanned some parts of both of them to show some of the highlights. Cool bumpers, digital dashes, dual carb engines and other neat stuff that we never got on our version. And yes that is a topless woman next to the 4WD. Not so stigmatic in Japanese art.
In this catalog, only the sedan is 4WD. They might have added the hatchback later. I don't know what year any of these books are. Probably 83 and 85. The older book says "new" on the cover so it's probably 83. The newer one is from the first year that the 4WD sedan came out, and that's probably 85 or later because they changed the digital dash that year. I really hope to find the Sprinter Carib brochure some day.
Some horsepower figures: In JIS horsepower which is always higher than SAE horsepower:
3A-C (older version): 83hp
3A-C (newer version): 85hp
3A-H (single VV carb): 86hp
3A-SU (dual VV carb): 90hp
3A-H and SU engines had a higher compression ratio, 9.3:1, and had the redline at 6400 rpm. Fuel economy figures are lower.
I really like that leather wrapped steering wheel! I may try to replicate it. The higher end JDM wheel looks alot like the MR2 wheel from Europe which can be found from time to time.
Those who haven't seen the European brochures on the main page, take a look - they're really neat.
One of those looks like a Subaru lol. The front of said one looks really nice, wonder If I could find that ground effects kit anywhere? Isn't 90p.s. equivalent to roughly 85 h.p.? Still, thats considerable in the world of Terc's.
I want those electrical doodads! Leather wrapped wheel wouldn't be too bad either. Maybe if I could find leather coverings for my front seats, as those are very comfortable. No cramping at all even after 6 hours in the car hehe.
Anyone here have a lot of money? EMPTY OUT THEIR SALVAGE YARDS!

The steering wheel in the pic is exactly the same as a JDM/Canadian (not US) Corolla GTS steering wheel. You could just grab one from an AE86 GTS at the wreckers.
I think it's interesting that the model isn't Japanese. Who's lookin' at car parts, anyway ??? LOL !! (just kidding, guys ! ) B) I want the shoe box to carry the Imelda Marcos collection in. Did one of you say in another post that consoles from '87 and newer Tercs will fit ?? and give you a little more private storeage space ?? I added "OS" handles above all the doors of mine, snagged those off various vehicles at the junkyard.
You can get those engines from time to time. I would use one purely for the appreciation of the system, not really for the power gain. VV carbs are notorious for giving driveability problems and being hard to fix, and how would you like to work on one without a manual? A Weber conversion would probably be a better idea for most of us.
thats my old engine right there, bad thing is when the carbs go, there is no fixing them, but they run fast those engines, now i have a single vv carb engine, soon to be, webber carbed engine,
tercel 4wd custom suspension, under drive pulley, vented brakes, cold air intake, and plenty more to come
