HOW TO REMOVE/REPLACE PCV VALVE?

Post by ebayollis »

I broke my PCV valve while removing the carb...do you have to have it for your car to run? How do you remove it, it just spins when I twist it

I suppose the car would run crappily without it (some cars are designed without one) since a missing PCV would be a big vaccuum leak. You remove it by simply pulling it straight up and out of the valve cover, made tougher by a rubber grommet that is likely petrified by now. You can prolly get a new grommet at your local parts haus. If you get broken plastic pieces into the valve cover then you need to remove the cover and fish them out so they don't block an oil passageway. Good luck.
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

Hey I think I can answer this one! You should be able to just pull it out, you can spin it while you pull, but there aren't any threads or anything. Its just held in there by the rubber grommet. I broke the grommet pulling mine out, the rubber had gotten brittle as plastic. I picked up a new grommet at autozone for $2, made getting the valve back in that much easier.

You can run it if you plug the vacuum line to the carb, and leave the other end "open". but it will likely make a mess spraying oil mist all over the engine compartment.
